Overview: Kyle is a fairly standard college kid. Lazy to a degree you ain't never seen before, sarcastic as hell and somewhat ambiverted, he is nonetheless one of the more powerful supers on the planet. Unfortunately for the world, that whole concept of "with great power comes great responsibility" hasn't quite sunk in yet. He still needs to be cajoled or otherwise personally motivated into acting on anything significant.

Kyle was born in Coast City to a pair of businesspeople who worked at the same financial institution. They rarely had time for their young son, so he was mostly raised by comic books. It was this early obsession with comic books that led him into art. He began drawing his own stick-figure comics when he was 8, and when he was 10 he began seriously studying art. He took the classes all throughout middle and high school, and took to it naturally. He even began publishing a webcomic about the exploits of a superhero by the name of Blackout when he was 15.
While walking home from a school event one night, he saw something streak through the sky. It disappeared behind the trees, and then Kyle heard the explosion. He ran to investigate, and found an honest-to-God spaceship in a blast trail. He went in to investigate, and found a small dying alien. It introduced itself as Ganthet, and gave Kyle a ring before dying. Kyle went back home, and discovered the ring gave him superpowers. He could barely contain himself.
Three days after that incident, he was out in the woods near his home practicing with his powers when it suddenly stopped responding. It then enveloped him in a bubble of green light and catapulted him across the stars. When he woke up, he was confronted by another alien, this one much larger and scarier. It introduced itself as Kilowogg, and explained the concept of the Green Lanterns to Kyle. He wanted Kyle to stick around for a few days to learn how to use the ring, but Kyle demonstrated that he'd sufficiently taught himself. He was formally named the Lantern of his sector, and sent back home. A few years later, he entered Coast City University on an art scholarship.
